As with our last second to last blog post, we will continue the topic of deception. We need to be on guard for deception and we do this by continuing in God’s Word. God’s Word is truth (John 17:17) and we use His Word as the litmus test for what is true and false.
Now, the devil, which literally means deceiver, wants us to doubt God’s Word. If we doubt God’s Word, then we won’t be obedient to this word. What amazes me is how soon in the Word of God the devil tries to discredit. It starts with the very first verse:
Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
When was the beginning? Was it 6,000 years ago or millions of years ago? Even some so-called professing Christians doubt the 6,000 year narrative. The devil doesn’t want us to believe the Word of God. If he can discredit when the earth was formed or when the beginning was, then the rest of the Word must by false or a mere fable.
He doesn’t stop there. God created – did God create? What about evolution? What about the apes? Maybe it was a big bang? If he can get us to doubt God created, we will doubt God can create a new person in us. We will doubt God has the power to create in us something new.
Remember to “take heed that no man deceive you” and in so doing, be on guard for fallacy. If we can form a basis of truth right at the beginning of the Word, it will lead us to a further truth for the rest of the Word. In knowing it was God at the beginning who created, we can understand it was God during the flood, God who led the Israelites out of Egypt, God who made Himself known in Jesus Christ, God who loves and cares for us.
